Common misperceptions are that RE power systems require no maintenance. In reality, simple benign but necessary routine maintenance of the PV system is required to realize the typical longevity of the solar system.

The panels themselves typically have a very long lifetime (20-30 years). Unfortunately, installation programs do not always include a sufficient service contracts. Regular maintenance on batteries is essential; they should be checked periodically, with the electrolyte level replenished as needed. Properly maintained, batteries should last 5-7 years before needing replacement.
